ESEDS is the first international educational programme in India to address the urgency of integrating the theme of sustainable design into its curriculum. The programme takes a hands-on approach, encouraging students to explore aspects of sustainability in developing design strategies and methods for the future, as well as providing access to innovative materials, technologies and production techniques.
Ecologically, ethically, socially and economically sustainable design with a practical hands-on approach is delivered throughout. Embedding environmental issues in all stages of the curriculum, with a strong focus on new textile innovation. The value of cultural diversity and social responsibility of design and creative practice is an integral feature of this unique programme.

As we know, Phulia, on the outer-skirts of Kolkata is the largest exporter of Handwoven Fabrics in India. The name is enough, handwoven khadi fabrics and the name, Phulia goes hand in hand, which emphasizes focus on Kolkata and West Bengal, all over the World. Similarly, Kolkata is known for its excellent production qualities and world-class embroidery artisans and its fair labour charges that beat any other city in India.
Hot bed for World Class designers: Kolkata is home to well-known designer labels and pioneers of Fashion Designing, like Ritu Kumar, Anamika Khanna, Iran Uttam Ghosh, and Sabyasachi Vukherjee, to name a few. The brand Sabyasachi has put Kolkata on the global map with its affluent market all over.
ESEDS is the first design school in India to embed sustainable and ethical practice throughout the entire design curriculum.
The school practices and models ethics and sustainability throughout the curriculum, delivering international courses which challenge students to question their design decisions, and to take responsibility for those decisions.
The school itself follows the motto of “be what you say you are” through its own sustainable policies, from sustainable furniture used in both the office and classrooms and studio spaces to using chemical free cleaners and an in-house store supplying organic, up-cycled fabrics and chemical fee herbal dyes for their design students to use within their design projects.
